Dissertation Research - Understanding and integrating patient partner perspectives in health research
My dissertation research has two main aims: to understand the concept of a patient partner perspective and to identify the dynamic processes underlying the integration of those perspectives in the conduct of health research.
Dissertation Meta-Project - The process IS the data
While many agree in principle that incorporating diverse perspectives is valuable to research, concretely demonstrating the impact of doing research in this way remains a challenge. Accordingly, the meta-project aims to demonstrate the impact of incorporating patient partner (and other relevant perspectives) in the conduct of this dissertation research.
Project Updates
July 2026 - I co-wrote a blog post with my colleagues for Integration and Implementation Insights about how to demonstrate accountability in different collaborative environments.
April 2026 - I completed my participation in a year-long task force with the MRCT center to update clinical trial competencies to better capture the skills needed for effective parter partnership. Here are the slides from the webinar during which the outcome of this work was presented. An evaluation of the task force’s patient partnership is currently underway.
April 2026 - I co-presented a poster at GW’s research showcase demonstrating the early impact of collaborating with health partners in dissertation research. We were delighted to receive an honorable mention for this work.
July 2025 - While working on my dissertation proposal, I gave an oral presentation at the INSciTS Convergence presenting an early draft of the conceptual framework for my dissertation. I leveraged feedback from the community to improve the framework.
May 2025 - I passed my comprehensive exams!
April 2025 - I presented a poster at GW’s research showcase sharing some work from a scoping review on patient-centered endpoints in clinical research.
January 2025 - I was grateful to receive a scholarship to complete the Complexity Intensive at the New England Complex Systems Institute (NECSI).
April 2024 - I presented a poster at GW’s research showcase sharing some work from a case analysis of patient experience data in recently approved FDA approved drug products using the drugs@FDA database. This work received a third place poster award.
In the fall of 2023, I began my PhD in translational health sciences at George Washington University.
Sep. 2023 - I was lucky enough to travel to Montreal for the RAPS Annual Convergence to present my master’s thesis using a case study design to investigate the implementation of the FDA’s patient-focused drug development initiative in late-stage clinical development..
2020-2023 - I completed my masters in clinical and translational research at George Washington University. While completing my masters, I also worked as a site clinical research coordinator managing pediatric oncology clinical trials for the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) then as a regulatory submissions coordinator for oncology clinical trials at clinical research organization (CRO).
2016-2019 While an undergraduate at Skidmore College, I was a research assistant in a molecular physiology lab and was able to present a poster at the Experimental Biology Conference. Our work was also published in Physiological Reports. I was honored to receive the Margaret J. Paulding Award for outstanding undergraduate research for my capstone work in 2019.
